What is Electrical Equipment Testing?
Electrical equipment testing can be split into two sections
Portable Appliance Testing( PAT)
and
Fixed Appliance Testing (FAT)
Both terms are used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use in the workplace and any other public environments.
PAT deals with appliances that have a plug (13 amp, 230v or 110v) that I can connect to my Kewtech SmartPAT tester.
FAT deals with fixed appliance connected to a fused spur.
Please see the Fixed appliance page for further information.
The process involves checking electrical appliances through a series of visual inspections and electronic tests.
Most electrical safety defects can be identified through visual examination; however, some types of defects can only be detected through testing.
It is essential to understand that visual examination is an integral part of the process because some types of electrical safety defects can't be detected by testing alone.
